Human Resources Department Internship Opportunities

icon Mechanical is seeking Undergraduate students completing their Bachelor’s in Human Resources, Business, or a related degree to join our summer of 2023 internship program. We are a design engineering, fabrication and self-perform mechanical contractor with offices in Granite City, IL, St. Louis, MO, and Nashville, TN. Our team designs, builds, and installs mechanical and plumbing systems and components for large-scale projects within the healthcare, commercial, industrial, and institutional markets. icon’s diverse client portfolio extends across 40 states, Mexico, and St. Croix.

We are currently looking for Undergraduate students to join our team as a Human Resources Intern based out of our headquarters in Granite City, IL. For this position we are open to either an internship during the summer or a part-time Co-Op in the fall or spring semesters. Our ideal candidate for this role will be someone who is personable, kind, has high energy and a passion for helping others. We are looking for an individual to provide valuable support in the day-to-day HR activities while being mindful of the well-being of all current employees and candidates.

Primary Responsibilities for our Human Resources Intern include:

• Building and executing recruiting strategies in line with industry and market trends that will target high priority needs.
• Working closely with HR staff to post and update job descriptions and candidate profiles based on current hiring needs.
• Serving as a company advocate and the main point of contact for all candidates. Fostering good relationships with potential candidates and past applicants.
• Providing candidates with a job overview, confirming interview times with candidates, hiring managers, scheduling interviews, and following up with candidates.
• Sourcing potential candidates through online career portals, recruitment sites, social media platforms, and in person events, and external recruiters (as needed).
• Maintaining record of all candidates and providing regular status updates to Hiring Managers, Company Leadership, and the HR Manager.
• Participating and assisting in career days as well as company social and networking events.
• Providing support to the HR team when onboarding new employees.
• Assisting the HR staff in filing employee documents in the appropriate place.
• Updating company databases by inputting new employee contact information and employment details.
• Researching and developing a process for recruiting international employees, work visa requirements, and company sponsorships.

Primary Qualifications for our Human Resources Intern include:

• Currently pursuing an Undergraduate degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field.
• Currently a sophomore/junior standing in a 4-year program.
• Possessing exceptional communication (both oral and written) and interpersonal skills.
• Overall strong computer skills. Performing efficiently in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
• Possesses a strong personal commitment for long-term and meaningful goals.
• Self-motivated with excellent time and communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to maintain confidential or sensitive information.
• The ability to multi-task with changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Demonstrates confidence in their working knowledge and is committed to researching/asking for the answers to find the right solutions for things they do not know yet.

Working hours and compensation for our Human Resources Interns include:

• Work hours: 40 hrs./week
• Compensation: $18.00/hour
