IT Application Specialist

icon Mechanical is seeking qualified professionals to join our IT Department. We are a design engineering, fabrication and self-perform mechanical contractor headquartered in Granite City, IL. Ideal candidates for our IT Department will be willing to take a “hands on” role, have a team player attitude, and be motivated to learn and gain a general understanding of how to maintain icon’s current and future systems. This role will provide support oversight, remote and onsite technical computer, device and network support to ensure icon Mechanical systems are running at peak performance.

 Position description for icon’s Application Specialist role:

This position will be responsible for working with the IT department to configure and customize Windows platform according to company specifications, building scalable applications, writing, and modifying code. The Application Specialist will collaborate with the IT Director and other technology team members to support current Microsoft technologies, such as Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Outlook, Exchange., etc. You also need to know how to debug software, troubleshooting site issues, adding document libraries, developing shared storage space, developing backup procedures, creating/enforcing company standards, analyzing all user activity and training staff.

To ensure success as an Application Specialist, you should exhibit solid knowledge of SharePoint, MS Office software, Windows operating system, ability to solve complex software issues and ability to create a positive experience for end-users

Primary responsibilities for icon’s Application Specialist role include:

  • Deploying O365 and new feature sets from Microsoft including Power Platform.
  • Provide testing, analysis, and feedback on internal development projects.
  • Developing technical applications using SharePoint, .Net Framework, ASP.NET, C#, JavaScript.
  • Installing the SharePoint platform, integrating applications, and creating libraries.
  • Adding users, controlling access to document libraries, and setting permissions.
  • Performing maintenance of the SharePoint platform, servers, and intranet.
  • Working with the design team to review website and application requirements.
  • Developing new web components using XML, .NET, SQL, and C#.
  • Supporting various online collaboration tools.
  • Troubleshooting and resolving issues or malfunctions.
  • Reviewing usage and activity reports and making adjustments to ensure optimized user-experiences.
  • Keeping up to date with Microsoft Application developments and performing version updates and upgrades.
  • Works with Development, Consulting and Project Management team to meet project goals.
  • Contributes to overall team goals through effective communication, a positive attitude and team collaboration.
  • Confer with the IT Director, Division(s), and department heads to jointly prioritize and develop specific plans and projects in support of business needs for information systems.
  • Lead the development and implementation of systems which support user groups throughout the enterprise in achieving their goals for the use of information.
  • Resolves system related issues both during and after business hours.
  • Complete required training associated with job function.
  • Provide integration support for other office 365 applications, such as OneDrive, Teams, Flow, and Azure etc..
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Primary qualifications and skills for icon’s Application Specialist role include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent work experience.
  • 3+ years’ Microsoft Power Platform, Microsoft Azure.
  • 3+ years’ SharePoint experience.
  • 2+ years’ experience as a SharePoint administrator a plus
  • 2 – 3 years of experience in Application Support Engineer.
  • Experience with Microsoft Communications sites.
  • Understanding of accessibility features in SharePoint Online.
  • Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) and Microsoft SharePoint (WSS) certifications a plus.
  • Proven experience administering Microsoft SharePoint and SharePoint Online via Office 365.
  • Extensive knowledge of Windows operating system, as well as SQL server, Power BI, PowerShell, and Office 365.
  • Knowledge of SharePoint tools, including ULS Logs, workflows, and SharePoint forms for tasks.
  • Previous experience as a SharePoint Developer, including migration experience both on premise and cloud.
  • Strong user knowledge of the Office 365 productivity suite.
  • Working knowledge of Active Directory (AD), SharePoint site administration.
  • Knowledge of Python, C#, ASP.NET, and .NET Frameworks is plus.
  • Ability to project manage and solve complex software issues.
  • Experience working with SQL Server.
  • Experience with the full range of skills required for web development including HTML/CSS/JavaScript/ C#/.Net/HTML5 a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with an ability to communicate to various audiences, including customers, other staff members and management.
  • Ability to multitask with strong time management and organization skills.
  • Strong teamwork skills, great communication skills as well as the ability to work independently.
