icon Mechanical served as the Mechanical Contractor for this LEED Silver project. This state of the art 94,000 square foot facility houses the George Herbert Walker School of Business Technology as well as other programs and services. With 31 classrooms, 10 large computer labs, 48 offices, and two large lobbies, the new building features the most up-to-date instruction design and technology.

The HVAC system in this building consisted of two large penthouse air handling units connected to zone VAV and FTU boxes. The building heating hot water is provided by three 1,000 MBH boilers. The hot water plant layout was redesigned by icon due to space constraints that did not allow specified equipment to be installed.

The building is connected to the campus chilled water system by direct buried HDPE piping installed from an adjacent building. The basement mechanical room is designed to allow the future installation of chillers which will serve the East Academic Building as well as feed the campus chilled water loop.

The East Academic Building also boasts numerous sustainability features. It was built to meet LEED silver certification, to improve performance through energy savings, water efficiency, CO2 emission reduction, improved indoor environmental quality and stewardship of resources.
