Mission Control: How icon Launches Projects with Precision

At icon Mechanical, the way we manage projects is just as important as how we build them. That’s why the installation of our new sheet metal rocket inside icon’s Granite City headquarters is more than a design feature, it’s a symbol of how our Mission Control team launches critical projects forward every day.

What Mission Control Represents

Mission Control is icon’s off-site project management and administration Center of Excellence, dedicated to supporting our most critical projects. It exists to connect field operations with in-office expertise, streamline workflows, and deliver projects faster, smarter, and more efficiently without compromising quality. Just like a real mission control center, this team operates behind the scenes, ensuring every detail is planned, coordinated, and executed with precision before boots ever hit the jobsite.

A New Approach to Project Management

Mission Control enables projects to start earlier and run more consistently by shifting key responsibilities off-site while maintaining full oversight. From submittals and change management to fabrication coordination and early project setup, the team reduces the need for heavy on-site management. This saves owners time, resources, and money. This approach allows our field teams to stay focused on execution while Mission Control manages the systems, schedules, and deliverables that keep projects moving.

One World-Class Team, Start to Finish

Mission Control brings together a diverse group of field-experienced professionals across:
• Executive Leadership
• Engineering & VDC
• Estimating / Target Value Delivery
• Construction Management & Commissioning

Co-located with VDC and engaged early (even during pursuits) our team identifies design gaps, improves constructability, and supports faster transitions from project award to mobilization. This results in increased productivity, greater repeatability, and consistent high-quality outcomes.

Why the Rocket Matters

The rocket installation represents what Mission Control does best:
• Precision planning
• Early engagement
• Centralized coordination
• Flawless execution

It’s a reminder that every successful launch and every successful project depends on the team guiding it from mission control. As icon Mechanical continues to deliver complex, national-scale projects, Mission Control remains at the center, managing everything so our teams can build with confidence.
